This 485-page book contains six generations of the descendants of Pedro Ruiz de Salazar and Ines Rodriguez de Montemayor. The first mention of Pedro in El Nuevo Reyno de Leon (Nuevo Leon) was on his marriage dated the 15th of June 1691 in Monterrey. Even though Pedro was not the first Salazar in Nuevo Leon he is considered the progenitor of the Salazar surname in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, and Texas. This book contains information from the late 1600s through the early 1900s.
The first Salazar to arrive in Nuevo Leon was Pedro de Salazar in 1611 but no descendants could be located for him. In the middle of the 1600s another Salazar, Carlos, appears in the records but also no descendants could be located for him. We then find a Nicolas de Salazar who arrived in El Nuevo Reyno de Leon in 1642. This Nicolas married Catharina de Avila and then Bernarda Martinez. To today I have only located 41 descendants for him and they appear on the appendix of this book. We also discovered that he was an interpreter between the Spanish and indigenous tribes of the area.
Finally, the main focus of this book is the descendants of Pedro Ruiz de Salazar. He was the son of Alonso Ruiz de Ocon, a native of Queretaro, and Maria de Salazar, who may have had been also from Queretaro and or possibly from El Nuevo Reyno de Leon. A brother of Pedro is mentioned to have been born in El Nuevo Reyno de Leon and a sister of his in Huichapan. From all his siblings, Pedro was the only one to adopt the Salazar surname from his mother and all his ten children used it after him.
Pedro died on the 24th of January 1729 in Monterrey. His wife Ines was the daughter of Diego Rodriguez de Montemayor and Ines de la Garza. She died on the 6th of April 1725 in Monterrey.
To date, I have been able to document 6,218 descendants for Pedro and Ines. This book only contains 4,255 of them which make up the first six generations of their descendants.
