This 469-page book contains eight generations of descendants of Diego de Hinojosa and Maria Cantu. It is believed that he was born in Rio Blanco, Nuevo Reino de Leon (Nuevo Leon) in the mid 1600’s. Diego de Hinojosa is considered to be the progenitor of the Hinojosa last name in Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, and Texas.
Diego de Hinojosa was killed by Indians in 1673 at San Antonio de los Llanos (present day Hidalgo, Tamaulipas).
Carl Laurence Duaine in his book “With all Arms” states that according to a record he found, Vitali Hinojosa is the father of Diego de Hinojosa and that his mother is a Montano. I have yet to find this record to verify this information. Most researchers list his mother as Maria Montano.
He married Maria Cantu the daughter of Jeronimo Cantu and Juliana de Treviño. Maria Cantu made a will on January 9, 1705 and is believed to have had died that same year.
Diego and Maria had Seven children; Diego, Juliana, Miguel, Maria, Clara, Agustina, and Ines.
