Cisneros

This 228-page book presents seven generations of descendants of Bartholome Jiménez de Cisneros and Ana Cantú del Río y la Cerda. Bartholome is regarded as the progenitor of the Cisneros surname in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Texas. The genealogical information contained herein spans from the early 1700s through the early 1900s.

Bartholome was born around the 1680s, though his exact birthplace remains unknown. To date, no reliable record has been found identifying his parents. It is possible that he is the same Bartholome who had a son, Juan José Antonio Cisneros, with María Mariana Villegas. That son later settled in what is now Camargo, Tamaulipas, during the 1750s; however, his descendants are not included in this book.

Unfortunately, there is little published documentation available about Bartholome himself. His name appears only a few times within the protocols of Monterrey, and he is known to have died before August 26, 1757.

On January 29, 1713, at the Sagrario Metropolitano of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Bartholome married Ana Cantú del Río y la Cerda, daughter of Gerónimo Cantú and Beatriz de Villarreal. Together they had fourteen children.

To date, I have been able to document 2,150 descendants of Bartholome and Ana. This volume includes only the first seven generations that I have been able to verify through existing records.

I sincerely hope that you find this book a valuable resource for your genealogical research. Remember that this work is intended as a tool—it remains your responsibility to consult original records and verify each source. I have strived to include citations for every fact listed, allowing you to trace my findings and locate the original records more efficiently.
