Cavazos

This 574-page book contains nine generations of the descendants of Juan Cavazos and Elena de la Garza. He was born in Santa Maria, de Castilla la Vieja, in Spain and entered el Nuevo Reino de Leon (Nuevo Leon) in 1630. Juan Cavazos is considered to be the progenitor of the Cavazos last name in Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, and Texas. This book contains information from the 1600’s to the early 1900’s.

In June 6, 1680 he made a will where he stated that he was the legitimate son of Gabriel Cavazos and Simona del Campo. He married Elena de la Garza the daughter of Pedro de la Garza and Ines Rodriguez.

Don Israel Cavazos, in his book Diccionario Biografico de Nuevo Leon, states that Juan Cavazos served in many public offices and participated in various military campaigns. He is often mentioned in records as being a Captain. He also mentions that in early records he would write his last name as “Cabassos” but that later on he pluralized it to Cavazos.

Juan Cavazos died in Monterrey in June 15, 1683 and was buried at the convent of San Francisco.
